Kali ini kita akan mengenal suatu perangkat dalam sistem komunikasi serat optik yang berperan penting dalam proses penyambungan. Fusion Splicer digunakan untuk menyambungkan antar ujung dari fiber optik, dengan latar belakang ketika kabel optik yang di estimasikan ke suatu tujuan dimana untuk sampai ke tujuan tersebut membutuhkan kabel optik yg relatif panjang sehingga membutuhkan penyambungan.
Fusion Splicer adalah Alat Penyambungan serat optik dengan memanfaatkan panas untuk meleburkan kedua ujung kabel optik secara bersamaan dengan waktu yg sangat singkat. Menggunakan sistem komputer yang canggih dimana kedua ujung serat optik akan di atur secara otomatis angel kedua ujung seret sehingga sejajar, kemudian batang elektroda akan meleburkan kedua ujung serat secara bersamaan dengan waktu yang sangat singkat sehingga kedua ujung dapat tersambungkan. Redaman yang dihasilkan dari alat ini berkisar di bawah 0.03 db tergantung dari baik buruknya pengupasan dan pemotongan kabel optik. Berikut adalah langkah-langkah penyambungan serat optik:
– Siapkan bahan-bahan dan peralatan yang digunakan untuk penyambungan seperti: Serat optik, Sleve Protection, Fiber Striper, Fiber Cleaver, Tisue, Alkohol 90%, Sarung Tangan karet, dan lain sebagainya.
– Masukan Sleve Protection ke salah satu ujung serat yang akan disambungkan. Dimana fungsi Sleve Protection sendiri adalah sebagai lapisan penguat di titik penyambungan dan juga berperan sebagai lapisan coating pengganti.
– Kupas bagian coating pada kedua ujung serat menggunakan Fiber Striper, Biasanya Fiber Striper memiliki 3 lubang pengupasan karena coating padaserat optik memiliki banyak lapisan.
– Bersihkan kedua ujung serat yg telah dikupas bagian coatingnya menggunakan tissue dan alkohol 90%
– Potong kedua ujung serat menggunakan Fiber Cleaver, dimana fungsinya sendiri adalah meratakan bagian ujung dari fiber sehingga redaman yg dihasilkan kecil, menggunakan mata pisau khusus biasanya berbentuk bulat dengan mata pisau yg sangat tacam sehingga ujung dari fiber terpotong rata.
– Setelah melakukan langkah-langkah diatas maka dimulai proses penyambungan mengguanakan Fusion Splicer. Cara meletakan kedua ujung fiber yg akan disambungkan haruslah mendekati ujung batang dioda dan juga tidak boleh melebihi ujung dari batang dioda. Cek posisi kedua ujung kabel pada layar lcd pada Fusion Splicer. Jika posisi kedia ujung telah sesua maka dapat dilakukan penyambungan.
– Pada alat Fusion Splicer biasanya telah tersedia slot untuk peleburan sleve Protector, setelah penyambungan selesai maka leburkan Sleve Protector pada titik penyambungan sehingga terlindung dari kotoran maupun putus dadakan
